Amanda Garcia is the communications coordinator for Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA) in the Austin region. As an experienced multimedia professional, she educates the community about saving lives through the power of organ donation.

About Texas Organ Sharing Alliance:

TOSA serves more than 7 million people in Central and South Texas counties as one of 58 federally-designated organ procurement organizations (OPOs) in the United States. TOSA was founded in 1975 as a not-for-profit corporation that provides organ donation and recovery services to Texans wishing to donate, and to those waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. Staff work in hospitals to guide grieving families through the organ donation process and provide the clinical services needed to recover, prepare and transport organs to those awaiting a life-saving transplant. The organization is also an active member of the community committed to sharing information with the public about the need for donation and the importance of donor registration.

Presentation Overview:

Organ donors offer recipients a second chance at life, but the need for donations is much greater than the number available — and every day more people are added to the waiting list. In this presentation, we will cover how you can register as an organ donor, debunk myths and misconceptions about organ donation and share stories of hope from people personally impacted by the Gift of Life.

Also, meet Leticia Kappell, a kidney recipent who will talk about her connection to organ donation.
