Patrick explained that we are not only a part of District 5870 but also a member of Zone 25B and Region 36 within the structure of Rotary. Zone 25B includes 58 clubs. Zones 25B & 29 comprise seven Texas districts and support us with a website. Zones 25B & 29
The Region 36 Rotary Coordinator Support Team is headed by Demetress Harrell. She and her support team help clubs develop new strategies to attract and engage members. As an example, in February, they shared how to successfully roll out a Public Service Announcement campaign using Rotary International’s ready-to-use tools and resources.
Every five years the zones are evaluated for total membership and reorganized if needed. Patrick told us that our zone will change to Zone 31 in a few years due to a needed realignment.
Patrick also encouraged us to not think about being small as not being capable of doing great things. Small clubs can accomplish meaningful and powerful projects. He gave us an example of one small club who had three members who came up with a great idea of auctioning a $1 million home and have given away $9.7 million. He gave another example of a club of 40 members who host a music festival which is a great success.
Patrick told us that Rotary is growing in other parts of the world while it is not growing so much in the United States primarily because others brag about the things that Rotary does while we do not. In order to help us “brag” about our accomplishments, he shared the Rotary Brand Center where you’ll find many resources to help you promote Rotary in your community and show the world that we’re people of action.
