Over the years, Virginia has hosted four students from Brazil, Argentina and Spain. She knows firsthand what an enjoyable and fulfilling experience it is and shared stories of taking students on family vacations to the Grand Canyon and the Utah National Parks, allowing a student to attend Austin Citly Limits Festival (which required a in inquiry to the parents to see if that was okay) and just the every day enjoyment of sharing culture with at student.
The Youth Exchange Committee is currently looking for host families and committee members. There are two students that have been selected this year, one is going to Japan and one to Taiwan. Students from those countries are expected to come here.
The objective of Rotary Youth Exchange is to 1) further international understanding and goodwill and 2) learn to adapt to another culture while sharing your own.
Virginia shared what qualifications applicants need, the duties of a sponsoring club, requirements for host families and the responsibilities of the Youth Exchange Committee. The South Central Rotary Youth Exchange website has lots of information about the program and applications for students and host families.
