Our speaker was Yesenia Ramos, Community Engagement Manager at Central Health. Central Health is a property tax funded health care system in Travis County. It was created in 2004 to take over city and county owned clinics to provide healthcare to low-income residents. Under the Central Health umbrella is CommUnityCare, created to manage and operate the clinics and Sendero Health Plan, a nonprofit health insurer.
Key achievements in 2025 were the addition of 16 new specialty services, three new specialty clinics and the opening of the Del Valle Health and Wellness Center. CommUnityCare saw a 7% increase in patients served and expanded primary care locations. Sendero membership increased to nearly 30,000.
Community engagement through CEO roundtables. Community conversations across Travis County, listening session and Community Health Champions directly guides the budget and Strategic Plan. Central Health began direct delivery of medicine because of community feedback.
During Q&A we learned that Central Health treats undocumented persons and provides mental health services.
