Joel Coffman is the Executive Director of the 501©3 nonprofit that provides the means for anyone to illuminate, connect with and learn from great examples of goodness. When Leslie Leuenhagen was searching the internet looking for service clubs with selfless community efforts and philanthropy, she came across our club’s website and said, “I’ve found a Lighthouse!”.
The Lighthouse Award recipients receive a recognition plaque, a donation to their organization and a thank you on behalf of the entire Central Texas community for their selflessness and dedication to good. Joel presented a check for $1000 to South Austin Rotary Club!
RecognizeGood has several programs. RecognizeGood Legends are individuals who have been selected because they go to extraordinary lengths for others. RecognizeGood Lighthouses are service clubs who either have a long length of service or have a magnitude of service or have made an overall impact on the community by a one-time event. RecognizeGood Ethics in Business Awards are given to businesses, individuals and nonprofits who believe that doing Good is good business and exemplify good ethical practices.
RecognizeGood was founded in 2008 by John Bosch, Jr., cofounder of the TyRex Group and Samaritan Counseling Center’s CEO, Nancy Blaich. John had the idea of developing a website that would be a place where anyone could share their gratitude for acts of kindness, thinking that by sharing these acts of kindness through the internet, even more kindness would be inspired and people would have a place to go for good news. Nancy like the idea and they teamed up and the site officially launched in April 2009 and raised over $25,000 in the first three months through individual giving.
