Joint Pints for Polio Fundraiser on Oct. 24, 2024

World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members, public health advocates, and all who want a world free from polio to come together, recognize our progress in the fight to end polio, and talk about the actions we need to take in order to end polio for good. All donations are matched 2:1 by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, tripling your impact!

Please join us on Thursday, October 24 (World Polio Day) for Pints for Polio at DK Maria’s at 5:00pm. This is a joint project with our club, Rotary Club of Austin Southwest and Rotary Club of Austin Westlake. DK Maria’s will donate $1 to PolioPlus for every drink ordered. Grab a friend and come join us!
Chick-fil-A Polio Fundraiser
Additional Polio event via the Westlake Club is Wed, Oct. 23 at Chick-Fil-A in Westlake from 4pm to 8pm.   They will donate 10% of a food order---indicate you are with Rotary. Mobile ordering? Use code: rotarycare (case sensitive)
Diaper Drive
The Diaper Drive (and other paper products—wipes, toilet paper, paper towels) for Manchaca UMC Food Pantry will be through October.   You may bring your donation to a meeting; Simon Garza has offered to collect items and deliver them to the church.   Items will also be collected at the Pints for Polio event at DK Maria’s

Rotary Minute/Environment Minute/RI Foundation Minute
Mickie Powers presented information on the Rotary Club of Guyana’s project that covered all three above topics….to provide electricity in the medical facilities.  Many of Guyana’s medical facilities have no electricity and babies that are delivered at night are born with the use of cell phone lights and flashlights.   The Rotary Club provided a solar powered system at a cost of $21,000 which provided much needed electricity in the medical facilities; they are working on providing more of these type projects.   One woman who had her baby with ‘light’ was so excited, she named her baby, Solar!
Raffle - Galindo Elementary
Stan Cravat won the raffle, but alas drew the 5 Clubs….
Mickie's Weekly Joke
There was a guy in prison, and he was talking to his brother on the ‘outside’, and he says, “remember when we were kids, and we finished each other’s sentences?”
