Announcements - May 1

·         We will be painting the room we meet in at DK Maria’s next Monday May 6th.  Sign up using the email from Pam Blankenzee.  Because of this we will not have our regular meeting on Wednesday, May 8th.

·         We are all invited to attend the EAFK knighting ceremony that will be held May 15th, 8:30 and 9:15am at Wayside REAL Learning Academy (6405 S I-35 Frontage Rd Wm Cannon & I-35).  If you have not been to one before it’s a great opportunity to see one in person!

·         Howard Brunson passed away; he was a charter member of this club. See email from District Governor, Bob Crouch received on April 24th.

Welcome New Members - Patty and Dayne!
Patty Hoyt was an active Rotarian in the San Francisco Bay area before retiring and moving to Austin.  She decided that she wanted an opportunity to get involved in Rotary again.  One visit to South Austin Rotary Club and she knew she had found her Rotary home!
Service To Our Community

·         Patty Hoyt’s friend Diana Craig who lives in California is willing to come help us design, build and paint an EAFK backdrop.  We can use ideas and help, contact Shirley.

Member Spotlight - Erica Garza
Member Spotlight for May is Dr. Erica Garza, Medical Director, VCA Ben White Animal Hospital. Erica Garza has been with VCA since 2003.  She grew up on a farm in Marion, TX and obtained her undergraduate degrees of Biology and Chemistry from Southwest Texas State University (nka Texas State University).  Her DVM was obtained at Texas A&M University.   She interned in Los Angeles, California (home of the stars!) with a focus on internal medicine and cardiology.
A check for $1000 was presented to Colin Swanson for Mainspring Schools, “The Little School doing BIG things!”.  Our own Lisa Killough serves on their Board of Directors.
Earl Curry Sunshine Fund

·         Patty- 41st wedding anniversary yesterday, April 30th!  She and Jim enjoyed celebrating by going out.

·         Mickie - HEB called and offered her some 2 lb packages of hamburger for her soup kitchen!   Central Texas Food Bank has not had any meat for her soup kitchen so it was very much welcomed. She can use donations of meat - just freeze it and bring it to a meeting or take it to her.

Raffle - Galindo Elementary

Lisa’s number was drawn from the basket but she selected the King of Clubs…so the queen lives on!  Our pot is growing for Galindo and a lucky Rotarian!
