Announcements - July 1

Rotary District Governor Installation on Sat June 27.   Lisa, Linda and Amber attended the District Governor Installation in Pflugerville.  In President Linda’s words, it was an “Epic Installation”.   DG Jeff Coleman was installed by his wife, Shannon Coleman who was DG three years earlier.   DG Jeff was charmingly emotional during his installation.   President Linda was also installed as RCSA’s new president along with many other club presidents.

Installation of Club Officers

PDG Rick Stacy initial comments prior to the installation
o    Feb. 23, 1905
o    Who was the first president of the Rotary Club in Chicago…not Paul Harris, but Silvester Schiele.    Paul Harris said the president was the most important position in Rotary; and Schiele had organization skills as well as integrity, warmth, humility and dependability.
o    How music came to Rotary meetings…Harry Ruggles (the 5th member of the Rotary Club of Chicago) was at a Rotary meeting with a speaker of whom Ruggles had heard before and knew there was an off-color ending.  So, right before that part, Ruggles jumped up, interrupted and shouted, “Come on boys, let’s sing!”
o    What is the philosophy of a Club….that the backbone of Rotary is the clubs—not the District or RI. The president of a Club is the highest honor in a Club.  The president must inspire, engage, motivate members and make meetings fun plus ‘make fellowship’.

July Member Spotlight - Patty Hoyt
July Member Spotlight is Patty Hoyt! South Austin Rotary is all about service, community and family! Meet Patty: My husband, Jim, and I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area of California for 40 years. Upon retirement in 2021, we hopped in our pickup truck and took off on a road trip that would take us through thirty states! It was a wonderful adventure, one we hope to continue and visit the remaining 20 states.

Connection Question

* For next week: What is your favorite book from childhood (includes comics) or if it wasn't a   book-- a movie, play, tv show, music, art - something you felt

* For today:  What did you learn from a service project?
Sherrick—while in college he worked at the Pride Center (Fla.) and that experience allowed him to realize he had great parents that were very ‘accepting’ of all
Satch—His interactions with the residents at Mickie’s soup kitchen made him better know the humanization of even the poorest among us
Amber—while working at Community First! Village, she learned the importance of community to the homeless
Linda—after her husband, Awad, passed away, she worked more with the Mother Maryam Foundation and with Rotary service and learned about having meaning in life and it can be found in service
