January Member Spotlight is Allison Batlin! Meet Allison: Twenty years ago, while seeking funding for a non-profit in the South Pacific, I came and spoke to South Austin Rotary Club. It was a different club then, meeting at Green Pastures, with a 60plus membership. Women were still new to Rotary.
Patty and her husband, Jim, have two daughters and three young grandchildren who live in California and Kansas City, which keeps them traveling often! Patty was a PTA mom who became very involved at several levels and eventually went to work for a non-profit associated with the school and the police to help keep children safe. Later she became a founding member of her Rotary club in California.
Mickie reported that everyone connected with Common Ground ATX/Soup Kitchen are very grateful for the $400 cash, socks, clothes and shoes that we collected and donated. They were able to provide a delicious Christmas dinner and lots of joy!

The District Wide Texas Service Day will be March 28. Our club is looking for a service project to do on that day. Please send any ideas to Jenny Turney.
We had some catching up to do from when our deck of cards went missing; Dayne drew the Jack of Clubs, then Simon drew the King of Clubs. Today’s drawing went to Lisa who drew the Ace of Diamonds….the Queen lives ON!
Patty Hoyt – received a wonderful gift from her husband, Jim, a visit to any spa of her choosing in Austin!
Mickie Powers – she spent three days at Christmas with her brother and they didn’t fight!
Sherrick West– he completed his first year as District Executive for Scouting America in the Capitol Area council’s Thunderbird District! Congratulations Sherrick!
Amber Scarborough – is sad for the passing of Fernando Kempf and for his family, especially for his daughter-in-law, Christine Kempff who is an active Rotarian at both the club and district level and good friend.
